It does help to counter the inefficiency of an open fireplace.
If I keep a generous fire burning, the fan at a relatively high speed and run my ceiling fan at a low speed, the room stays very comfortable. It is an open area, family room/kitchen combined with many open doors to other rooms, so it is a task for a fireplace to heat.
Honestly, I haven't had the opportunity to run your system w/o my normal gas whole house Furnas, so I can't say if it would keep the family room/ kitchen warm. I think if I blocked off the open doors to other rooms it may stand a chance. Problem is the fireplace has to large mouth for sending heat right back up the chimney.
I am glad I purchased your unit, let's see how long it lasts before I comment on purchasing another.
