Frequently Asked Questions
What are the advantages of a fireplace heat exchanger?
Our fireplace heat exchangers:
- Force the heat of your fire out into your living space
- Consume up to 50% less wood
- Eliminate the need for expensive climate control systems such as electric heaters, heat pumps, corn or pellet stoves, or central air oil or gas furnaces
- Pay for themselves after one year or so of use
How to measure for a fireplace grate?
You will first need to gather the following items: a tape measure, a pen or pencil, and a writing pad.
Remove any items inside or in front of the fireplace that may potentially hinder you from accurately measuring. Then use the tape measure to measure the front width of your fireplace. Then get the measurement from the back width, followed by height and depth.
width of the opening?
width in back?
height of the opening?
depth at bottom?
depth at top?
You then select an item that is smaller than and fits within all these measurements.
After measuring your fireplace, if you still have questions, email us or complete our online contact form.
What does BTU mean?
A BTU, or British Thermal Unit, is the standard unit of energy used to measure heat. It is used to calculate the amount of energy a heating or cooling system can provide.
The average heat demand of an average-sized home is a 15,000 BTU/hour. At Hasty Heat, all of our heat exchangers are designed with the greatest surface area possible to capture and move the highest percentage of the BTU heat generated by your fire into your home.
How do I clean a fireplace grate?
Begin by using a wire brush. Then use a dry or wet rag to wipe it down.
If you purchased the removable ashtray add-on, you can simply pull from under the grate and empty all the debris in a paper bag or trash bin.
How often should I clean my fireplace grate?
We recommend cleaning your fireplace grate after every use.
Inspect your grate every year for rust. You may consider adding a coat of heat-resistant paint for added protection.
