Hasty Heat "Hard Times Heater" HTH Heavy Duty Fireplace Grate Heater with Blower
Transform your fireplace into a powerhouse of high-efficiency warmth with the Hard Times Heater HTH designed for a lifetime of use. This item is a major engineering upgrade that directly replaces our popular, durable classic CHTH design. Crafted from heavy-duty welded steel, the HTH combines rugged durability with cutting-edge on or off-grid performance, making it the perfect choice for masonry hearths, zero-clearance fireplaces, and gas log setups.
Built and used like modern andirons / Firedogs to cradle your fire.
Stop letting your heating bills escape up the chimney. Move the heat out and into your home.

🚀 Key Performance Features of the HTH
  • Air Cooled For Long Life. By using a high flow 90mm fan to force cool air from the room through the tubes lifespan is significantly extended. If the steel does not glow from the fires heat the steel does not oxidize, scale, and burn up: a common problem with even the thickest cast iron solid steel bar fireplace grates.
  • Turbulent Tubular Design: This totally tubular heat exchanger maximizes surface area and air turbulence. It captures and circulates the fire's intense heat out into your home, supplementing or replacing your need to turn on the furnace.
  • Burnout-Resistant & Self-Seasoning: Continuous airflow from the blower keeps the heavy-duty steel tubes cool. Because the metal never reaches a glowing red-hot state, it resists scaling and thinning. Just treat it like a cast-iron pan—rub it down with cooking oil when not in use, and over time it will form a beautiful, natural gun-blue patina.
  • Grid-Independent Survivalist Ready: Perfect for preppers, emergencies, and off-grid homesteads. The included high-flow, heat-shielded USB fan is tested to run for 10 hours on a common cellphone battery bank or even longer on a 12V car battery. Keep your family warm when the power grid goes down.
  • DIY Modular Flexibility: Flat-packs to save you money on shipping costs. Like lego blocks he HTH is easily assembled or rearranged into a myriad of custom layouts. Need more heat? Bolt another HTH tube exchanger on now or later!

📐 Sizing & Fitment Guide (Horizontal vs. Vertical)
The HTH adapts to your space, with sizes ranging from the ultra-compact 8HTH14D (8x14x4") all the way up to the large 24HTH24D (24x24x4").
1. Flat Horizontal Orientation
  • The Blueprint: The first number indicates your front width; the second number denotes your depth.
  • Example: A 20HTH16D is 20" wide laying down and 16" deep from front to back. It can be used flat in either right-hand fan or left-hand fan orientation; or both when used in pairs.
  • Fitment Tip: Select a depth that fits behind your spark screen. If you have a free standing spark screen it is ok to select deeper than your fireplace floor. Letting the tubes extend slightly past your mantle helps mix the hot air deeper into the room.
2. Upright Vertical Orientation (Highly Recommended)
  • The Blueprint: Flipping the unit upright turns your first number into the total height.
  • Example: A 20HTH16D placed vertically stands 20" tall, while the upper-back corner extends 16" deep into the hearth.
  • Fitment Tip: Because the HTH forms a square profile, if your fireplace back wall slants forward, make sure to measure your available depth at that exact height marker (e.g., check your depth 20" up from the floor) to ensure it fits comfortably.  Select a depth that fits behind your spark screen. If you have a free standing spark screen it is ok to select deeper than your fireplace floor. Letting the tubes extend slightly past your mantle helps mix the hot air deeper into the room.
3. Passive Solid-State Heating (Fanless Operation)
In the upright vertical position, the HTH naturally draft-convects  — drawing cool room air in the bottom and emitting it hot out the top. Making this the most durable and preferred orientation. You can remove the fan entirely and use it as a fanless fireplace grate! This natural vertical convection continually pulls cool air over the blower components via basic thermal physics, protecting them from damage while still radiating roughly 1/5th of the heat output possible with the powered blower running.
